Project Description

The number of operations performed in Turkey is increasing every year. For example, it increased from 3.7 million to 4.8 million between 2010-2015. However, the number of surgeons and operating theatres does not increase at the same rate. Therefore, the utilisation time of operating theatres and the time spent by surgeons per operation are important.
However, in parallel with the increasing need for the use of medical images in surgeries, the use of computers in operating theatres has also increased. Keyboard, mouse or touch screens are used to access the records. Computer use causes the surgeon to lose time and poses a risk in terms of sterilisation. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, it is aimed to develop a unique system in which surgeons can access medical records quickly and sterilely with the help of a depth camera connected on a medical monitor. This system will process the data received from the camera, recognise the gestures made by the surgeon and transfer them to the PACS application to provide access and navigation. Computer vision and machine learning methods will be utilised in the development of this system.
